the joint at the starter solenoid where the B+ wire from the alternator
is crimped together with the pos battery cable is prone to fail.
A wee bit of corrosion increases resistance and convinced 3 of my 405 alternators to go into full charge mode. The diodes all burnt out.
A new rectifier pack is close to $100 plus installation.
This flaw was never present in the 505 because the B+ wire from the alternator had its own terminal and was bolted to the solenoid stud along with the battery cable lug.
The 2 different sized wires in the same terminal seem to be the problem
especially in salt exposed 405s.
The fix is easy run a 10 ga wire from the B+ alt terminal to the pos terminal
on the battery or to the main power distribution point behind the left headlight.
It is not necessary to remove the old wire a new wire will cure all.
This may not be your problem but if you don't do this modification I've wasted all this typing.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] '91 Headlamp Flicker
Hello,
I've been noticing this phenomenon for a month, but thought it was a
bad connection or the alternator. I doubt the alternator because the
instrument panel lights are not flickering.
Tonight it became worse, and I heard what sounded like relays clicking
either at the stalk or at the fuse box.
Is there a relay for the headlamps?
Or, is more likely the cause the stalk?
Happily for me, I just scored a used 505 stalk from a list member last
week.
Such are the joys and ironies of Peugeot ownership in North America.
