I'd rather delete the forged address emails that loose members such as phil
& george, who already announced they were unsubscribing (thus my copies of
this message to them).
Besides, Phill: we never heard back from you on the resolution of your XN6
"suddenly died" issue.
FWIW, I have a separate FREE gmail account (charlie.lincoln@gmail.com) that
I use for mail lists. (I've got others too for various purposes, including
one just to email myself files for backup.) This keeps personal interest
mail separate from my main email (clincoln@spiritone.com).
I use POP access to download gmail accumulated mail at a time I am free to
read it (generally once a day, unless I am hoping for an answer to a
question I posted!). One can also have email automatically forwarded to the
main email address as it is received.
On Yahoo groups I am subscribed twice: 1) on the gmail address as receiving
mail as posted and 2) on my main email address as "no messages". This
allows me to reply in my default/main email address, or the gmail address.
(without the 2nd subscription, a reply from my main email address would be
rejected.)
I need to rethink my replying from the main email address. If that address
was hijacked I'd have the same "HEY, THAT'S NOT ME" dilemma Phil & George
have. Whereas, if I stuck to the gmail address, I could just un-subscribe
and re-subscribe with a different/new gmail address.
I supposed all this could be done with a Yahoo email address, too. But I
think to get POP access it is not free.
This begs the almost ultimate question: using the long headers of the forged
email, can the moderator, with Yahoo spam reporting support (do they have
it?), filter/reject email not from the real subscriber?
Just some thoughts. I'd hate to see this group atrophy over the spam issue.
