I have done lots of research into biodiesel at http://biodiesel.infopop.cc
As far as I can ascertain, there are no detrimental effects to the rubber do
to veggie oil. If the car has twenty five plus year old rubber anywhere in
the system it is always a good idea to replace it with the new neoprene
hoses. Truth is I just got my 25 year old Puggie on the road two days ago.
Time will tell if more hoses will begin to break down. Looking in the engine
compartment just now, I do not see that many rubber hoses associated with
the fuel system. Mostly metal, I am sure there are a few couplings made of
rubber by the fuel tank. No big deal to get under the car and look.
I need to get my engine running properly before I put my homebrew biodiesel
in the tank. Right now the engine is hard to start in the morning and it
produces white smoke when it fires up. After it warms up the smoke turns
black and is very thick under load. I can not tell yet if the turbo is
working or if it is stuck and impeding the air flow. I don't hear any
whining when I step on the accelerator. The engine is rough and has low
power, but I have never driven it when it was running right so I don't know
how much power the four banger should have.
I have to get back to work now.
Thanks for any help you all may have on diesels.
