This weekend, April 2 and 3. The Tarheel Trailblazers and Dirt Divas are assembling forces to work on the mountain bike trails at Lake Norman State Park. Come on out and lend a hand, your help is greatly needed. These trails are all built and maintained by volunteers, people like you and I who love to ride. The crew at the park has been working hard to open the third phase of trails, a 6 or so mile loop. It will bring the total mileage up to approximately 13 miles. Trail work will start at 8:30AM each day. On Sunday, we will have lunch and a ride to follow the work. Directions: Lake Norman State Park is accessible off of Exit 42 from I-77 near Statesville. Driving north on I-77, turn left at exit 42 and follow signs into Lake Norman State Park. We will meet at swimming area parking lot to gather tools before heading out to trail. The Community Building is located off of Group Camp Lane in the Park. No Pets Please. For more info, check out www.tarheeltrailblazers.com or www.firstflight.com

RIDE REPORT FROM SPENCER (and good Bonty wheel feedback)
Not sure if you saw the carnage, but as Joe, Matt, and I crested the hill past Sharon on Park, a plastic bag (?), no squirrel (!) frantically skidded across the road. In a last ditch effort to avoid three 700x23c tires bearing down on him, he lunged headfirst into my back wheel, momentarily locking it up. He didn't quite fit between the chainstays, but the spokes trimmed him accordingly until he made a complete rotation and launched skyward, making a nice 6 foot arc and landing back on the pavement behind me. Nary a wobble on my Bontrager Race X Lites, although a little fur to clean up. Rodents are now on notice if they are considering a little argy-bargy with me on a training ride.
Come join us in Uptown Greenwood, SC for the 3rd annual Uptown Greenwood Pro Cycling Challenge April 28th. We are squeezed in between the annual Tour De Georgia and the Athens Twilight.
