Re: [Peugeot-L] Peugeot 504 1994 for sale!

If you want to trade plates to a car that you have owned for more than 7 days you need to go to an outlet and do the registration switch before you drive the car on the road.

Most jurisdictions/insurers will have some similar method of allowing a grace period between acquiring a "new" car and doing the official paperwork but be warned before anybody does this they should have done everything exactly by the book because the bigger the $ accident the more the insuring parties will look for a way to weasel out of paying, no matter what you thought about the legality of what you were up to.

I was over the grace period by a day when I slid into a Tempo quater panel which cost me $1877 CD to replace 15 years ago I thought I was covered but the grace period starts here with the earliest part of the transaction.
The insurance was very civilized they just said bring us a certified check and we'll forget the whole shimozzle.. The adjuster said people playing "fast and loose" are more likely to be involved and at fault.

I don't make this mistake anymore and have sold my car and taken my plates 1600 mi and slapped them on a "new" car and driven home all within a week.

Bon Chance

That's really a different story! A lot of us keep our old cars for parts, so the plate trade protocol would not work under your constraint in Manitoba!!

There is one thing I should add to this....     In Manitoba where we have Province owned/run car insurance you must     have disposed of your old car before you can move the plates onto your     newly acquired vehicle.

In Manitoba disposed means, not parked in the garage w/o plates it means, SOLD.
