It's a shot in the dark, but you can also look under the distributor
cap to see if it is clean. A common problem with that engine is to
have the oil seal fail, coating the inside of the distributor with oil.
When I had my V6 several years ago, I had the problem, and I took it
to one place, because I had no idea how to fix it just by looking at
it. They told me it would be a couple hundred bucks. I didn't have it
done, as I was on a tight budget at the time, and was cleaning it out
weekly for a couple of weeks. Then I went to another place, and they
fixed it for $35.
