Gee Mike I never get above 22 on the road , at 70-80, and did a quick trip
up the coast where trafic usually flys (80-100) and there mpg was below
20....behaved very well at speed.

Folks:
Just returned from a 1,000 mile plus trip from Toronto-Washington
(DC)-Toronto in the 1986 Turbo wagon. The Cherry Blossoms in DC were at
their peak, and so was this 19-year old car with over 150,000 miles on it.
Mileage southbound was 27.5 US mpg; northbound was 26 US mpg. I keep the
speeds to 70 mph or less, using GPS, and kept A/C off, lights off (except
where required by law, and the antenae down. These speeds are considerably
slower than we tend to drive in Ontario (under ideal conditions) but they
did yield, to my mind, very satisfactory results. The highest price for
premium I saw was in Chevy Chase, MD at $2.79 a gallon! The best price for
91 octane was $2.39 in PA. Gas got more expensive in New York state, around
$2.49.
