I don't know how usual that is... however the USPS is notorious for being slow. I've had books sent (admittedly via the slowest cheapest shipping rates) from New York take about two months to get to California.

If you really need something, pay for the expensive shipping (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc). Last I checked DHL starts at roughly $100. To get from the US to Canada.
