[Peugeot-L] 505 floor prep

I plan on removing the front carpet from my 505. The carpet is a leaky clutch master victim and stinks as well as sports bare spots.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what to treat the floor with? By "treat" I mean wash as well as coat.

Also, I am installing a wrecker supplied carpet the front ends of it (that go where the pedals and under the glove box) are curled at the ends. Does anyone have a suggested method for straightening out the curls (only the last few inches of the carpet) before installing it? Thanks,
Ken
