In mid-85 the doorlatching mechanism changed so that the outer handle lifts
up inside the door; before that it pushed down. For identification, the
later rear handles have the lever arm cocked at an angle to the handle.
The later rear handles commonly bind up due to lack of lubrication on both
fulcrum pins. The outer should be oiled while holding the handle open and
squirting toward its base; the inner may be lubed with silicone spray
through the kiddie-lock hole. Silicone is best because it is a dry
lubricant which doesn't attract dust, but any lube you can get in there is
better than nothing. All of the handles should be lubed as soon as they
start to feel stiff. The rear ones are in quite short supply, and should
be saved before scrapping any 505 after serial number 384176 (USModels).
