Due to some very bad behavior-- bucking and losing all acceleration in
very intermittent episodes--- I disconnected the microswitch on the
throttle assembly and the problem went away. The idle is high as heck
but boy it performs better including better overall acceleration and
smoothness. What is the downside of this "fix"?
With it connected I would (on a given day) drive along and at say 1900
rpm the pedal would effectively do nothing --then when the idle
dropped down to about 1300 I could gingerly accelerate back up. Not
fun on the highway but I learned to put it into N to drop the idle and
then bring it back up to the "limit"... would a new micro switch be
the fix?
BT
BTW - I got a respectable 17.5 mpg on mostly local driving through two
tankfuls on regular. No ping/knock:no premium, and no detonation
sensor lighting.
Sold my '87 for $1. to a friend family....11 yrs and 125K miles put on
"Frenchie"--now at 195K. Wow...it was a great ride and it still
drives the best of the bunch...(86 Xn6 and 88 turbo S auto)
