Could one put a couple wornout pads behind the existing pads?
Would this fix not do the trick taking up the space created by the narrower
caliper?
Wait until I get my flack jacket on before replying...

Bill,
They must have been switched. Watch out, because if they didn't switch
caliper sliders too, you could have a massive hydraulic failure when the
pads wear down a bit. The sliding armatures on the calipers for vented
rotors are wider by the same amount that the rotor is thicker. If you put
them on the thinner solid rotor, the pistons will extend further to get the
pads to reach the rotor, which only works while the pads are thick.
