Could one put a couple wornout pads behind the existing pads? Would this fix not do the trick taking up the space created by the narrower caliper?
Wait until I get my flack jacket on before replying...

  They must have been switched. Watch out, because if they didn't switch   caliper sliders too, you could have a massive hydraulic failure when the   pads wear down a bit. The sliding armatures on the calipers for vented   rotors are wider by the same amount that the rotor is thicker. If you put   them on the thinner solid rotor, the pistons will extend further to get the   pads to reach the rotor, which only works while the pads are thick.
