Hi guys,
I've been quite busy this last weekend parting out a 505 STI and harvesting needed parts for my restification of my 505 Turbo... Grabbed tons of parts, but sadly I left the rear door handles! (Now I find out they're hard to come by!)
I have a minty blue leather interior to go in, and the nice high end carpet along with some of the other goodies to put in my stripped out GL - Turbo. More weight - but my mods should make any weight gains insignificant! (Plan is to use the Leatherique restoration kit #3 to bring the seats back up to their absolute best...)
I also got to thinking about the rebuild options for the engine - or more appropriately the LACK of options for rebuilding these engines... (Any progress Trevor?)
I think we need to see about finding a source of replacement parts so that we can ensure these engines can carry on in these cars for the years to come. My car is cosmetically very nice, handles better than most cars out there, but the engine is just plain tired.
I'd love to plunk down the cash for a Politecnic engine - but that likely isn't going to happen any time soon and having the ability to rebuild an N9TE with readily available parts would be awesome.
I've read a lot about Volvo performance builders using custom parts for their build ups - even borrowing from other engines for components that fit dimensionally...
Does anyone think it would be worthwile for us to pool our collective knowledge and resources to find out more economical ways to get one of these engines rebuilt? I'm thinking pistons, rods, and bearings primarily, but even things like valve guides and valve seals would be a great benefit.
If there are parts that are readily available - then maybe a list of those parts or a list of the hard to find parts that we need to source would be handy...
All I know is that I need to start sourcing the parts for complete rebuild pretty soon here. If the process proves fruitless I may have to start looking at engine swap ideas instead of engine rebuild options...
So - any suggestions? (Rebuild not engine swaps! We've discussed swaps - but I'd prefer to keep my car ALL Peugeot if possible...)
