I just pulled the intake pipe off the turbo again, yes it is spinning! Thank
you Lord, and all the rest of you, of course! Ok, now I have some better
info to go on. If the turbo is working and I can't believe how quit it is,
then like you say I should check the valve clearance next. I have the
Peugeot diesel engine book. I will get after this after it cools back down,
maybe next weekend. I know from working on air cooled VWs that it is not a
good idea to change any of the fuel mix settings until after all the
mechanical adjustments are made. It is really tempting to find out what the
fuel - air mix is, right now. I can wait, I got plenty of checks done for
today.
One of the things which surprised me was the quantity of parts the prior
owner installed on this car. For instance, the vacuum pump was replaced not
long ago. In the trunk I found a huge stack of service invoices.
Maybe the turbo was a little stuck, I couldn't really tell since it is way
down there. One thing is for sure it is spinning now. I will take it for a
spin in a while and see how much black smoke it leaves behind.
With any luck it is better now.
thanks again.
