[Peugeot-L] Re: Strut oil

Every time the topic of strut rebuild comes up, I am reminded of the major goof in conversion in the Haynes manual. Or it could have been a typo.

Quoting from the Haynes book- "(step) 25. Insert the cylinder in the strut, then pour in 3.35 cc of suitable fluid - consult your Peugeot dealer." Converting that number, it comes up .1 oz.

It should read 335ml, which is about a can of beer.

The Peugeot manual that I have says "Pour in 0.335 dm cubed of ESSO OLEOFLUID 40 X oil. Okay, no problem. Easy stuff.

Be sure and torque that cap nut well. I had one come loose, after I had filled the cylinder to the top, mistakenly. It's been a while, but it was like 60 pounds or something. It might have been 80, who knows(?) but it took a good oomph. The book says 8m.daN. I'm too lazy to convert it right now.

It's really not a bad job, and is quite satisfying, provided you have the right info. I don't know why they were so cryptic back then when it came to simple measurements.
