[Peugeot-L] 405 Mi16 AC/alternator belt options

The Mi16 with the idler pulley removed can use belt # 5050400. As I have stated previously this is not a great alternative because the lack of wrap on the crank pulley causes squealing unless the belt is run really tight, and this might lead to premature destruction of the rubber in the crank pulley.

I have installed VW Rabbit timing belt tensioners in place of the factory AC belt tensioner/ idler pulley. 1/8" pipe (I used brass pipe) is very close to 10 mm OD, the diameter of the hole in the VW tensioner. The inside of the pipe can be drilled out to 5/16" or 8 mm the diameter of the idler mounting stud on the Mi16. About 1/4 to 3/8" of washers will space out the VW tensiner so the belt is centered on the new pulley. Set the pulley to take up as much slack as possible and the stock length will work, using the alternator to do the belt adjusting.
