I would have said that your swivel bearings at the top of the front
springs were sticking, but for the part about the noise not occurring
without the engine running.
There is a series of TSBs (#368 12/89, 379 5/90, and 398, 11/90)
about noises from the PS line which loops about under the body pan
for cooling purposes. (On USModels this only applies to MI16s, but I
don't have information on second series 405s.) The HP pipe is
clipped in a bunch of stand-offs under the floor which are supposed
to isolate it, but it may contact the floor and set up a noise when
the pump is working hard.
