Hello All,

Due to the need to trim my collection, I am selling my '79 504 diesel which has the original 4 speed transmission in it. The car is located in the Metro Detroit area, has 163K on it, and I'd like to get $1,100 for it which would include the car plus a 5-speed BA/7 trans and shifter from an '81 505 turbo diesel, plus an extra set of rocker panels for the car.

If anyone is interested in this car I can send you some quick e-mail photos or, give me your mailing address and I'll send you some printed photos of the car.

Here are further details on the car. I am the third owner. The original, long-term owner was a dental school professsor in Virginia. He sold the car to a guy in Minnesota who kept it for two years only then I bought it. I drove it non-stop all the way from Minnesota to the Detroit area (650 miles). Glass on the car is good all around. Body is not too bad and is certainly restorable. Most of the rust is on the rocker panels and the lower inside fender. I have new replacement rocker panels included with the deal. The floor pan is not rusty and the car has never been in an accident as far as I can tell. The car was originally painted green and at some point the original owner had it painted a light blue (which I think was also a 504 color).

Mechanically, the car has a re-cored radiator, a new water pump (I believe) and new front-end bushings. The 14" tires are so-so. The heater motor doesn't work but I believe this is an easy fix. The interior is a dark brown vinyl and isn't too bad. There are only two tears that I am aware of and both colud be repaired I'm sure. The car needs a new headpipe coming off the exhaust and I have a new replacement that will be included with the deal. The car smokes on start-up but most of the smoking disappears after warm-up. I understand that this is due to timing chain stretch and a lot of the smoking can be adjusted out.

While the car is certainly driveable, realistically I'd look at shipping it or towing it home, just to be safe.

I suppose this would be a great candidate for a vegetable oil conversion.

Anyway, if anyone is interested please contact me off-list.

Carl
