Are you sure it is the clutch and not the driveshaft splines? It would be
quite unusual for a clutch to fail without slipping for a long time
first. On the other hand, the front driveshaft splines may fail suddenly
without notice.
You could tell which it is by seeing if the speedometer registers when you
engage a gear and rev the engine. If it does, it is not the
clutch. Another outside possibility is the differential, but you would
usually get some klunking or worse from the dif. If you suspect the dif,
drain it iinto a clean glass container and look for bmo's (big metallic
objects) on the magnet or in the oil.
The driveshaft is a snap to replace.
