Hi, thanks to everyone who chipped in their 5c worth, seems to be most
people steer clear of the expensive synthetics and go more for the
cheaper mineral oil based lubricants. I came across some very sage
advice online from a guy who said to check what they're selling at
truckstops as trucking companies routinely test the oil in big rigs
and those brands that don't measure up aren't usually for sale very long.
Also I was wondering about doing an engine flush to clean out
accumulated gunk when I saw another post saying not to do this on
older engines as you can potentially flush away all the old crud that
is actually keeping everything sealed up tight. Once the scraper ring
on the pistons is now super clean the fit is not so tight and this
allows contaminants down into the oil pan which will cause the engine
to self destruct very quickly. What do people think on the subject of
engine flushes for old Peugeot diesels??
cheers
Richard
