Real message:
The default sender for the list is going to cause a problem whichever
way it is. At least the current way is safer.
As it is set up, if you just reply, the email goes to one person. If you
actually intended it to go to the list, it can easily be resent, and the
original recipient was going to get a copy anyway.
If the setup is changed to reply to the list by default, if you just
reply, a message that you were intending to send just to the person who
wrote the original email, will go to everyone on the list, and then be
posted in the various sets of archives to ensure that your mistakes live
on forever.....This setup means that sometimes people will get emails
that were not meant to be for general consumption.
Status Quo please.
Also, with respect to sending questions direct rather than posting on
the list:
1. You limit the pool of knowledge from which you will get your answer.
2. Certain people may get overloaded, and may stop answering all
questions if they loose the choice about which ones to answer.
3. You answer may be slower in coming.
4. Don't bother with asking me direct. Due to spam on the list, I use my
displayed email address for posting, but a different one for receiving
list mail. Mail to my post address is considered spam and automatically
deleted....
