[Peugeot-L] xn6 spark plug gapping

Hello everyone. I have a 1985 505 S Wagon, and have installed new spark plugs. The ones that came out were gapped at .044in with no deposits or buildup on them, and the sticker on the hood calls for .025in, so I gapped at the hood's specs, and since installing them, my car has a random misfire since the gapping. I removed and regapped the new plugs at .044, and the miss is now gone. Should I go halfway and gap at .034in? Could it be that my injector spray pattern isn't quite up to specs? Any help would be appreciated. BTW, compression is normal and equal on all 4 cylinders.
Thanks in advance!

Chris in Oregon
