My favorite speakers for the 405s have been a tri-axial speaker that Radio Shack used to sell, before they got out of the car audio business. The magnets were about 1/4 inch too big to fit into the hole, so I had to grind the hole a little. Worth the effort, and I was able to retrieve them when I traded for a "new" 405.
Maybe the cone isn't actually rubbing the door; it might be the connector hanging against it??
