Its running hot, get a new thermostat. The fans only come on near redline
on the gauge, nearly overheated. Peugeot made the mistake (in my opinion)
of making the cooling system too passive. You can get thermostats from
Brian Holm, Western hemispheres.com, or disortex. I use the 504's 72 degree
in the summer and the 505's 80 degree in the winter in my '82 505
turbodiesel. I live in hot, hot Kalleeforneaa, and need all the cooling I
can get. Keep your cooling system in top shape, the Peugeot diesel is very
intolerant of overheating.
