[Peugeot-L] Speedo gearing

From: Bob Bruce <bobbruce_at_mts.net>

The speedometer is all mechanical driven by the cable The speedo drive gear the one that the speedo cable is pushed into in the raer of the trans and the speedo driven gear the one on the output shaft inside the tail housing must match
Then they must be selected according to the diff gears So that if you trans came from another car like a TD sedan it will have gears to match the sedan diff
some different speedo drive gears will work with the same output shaft gear But you will probably have to change both Which means the torque tube and diff will have to come out to remove the u joint and tail housing. Do you have any idea which was changed trans or diff and what it came from?

Hi Bob, while we're on the subject of gearboxes can I ask you a question about the 3HP22 in my TD wagon? the speedo works but the reading is way off target, it will say I'm doing 80 miles an hour when I'm only really doing about 60. The speed sensor is not hooked up to the bellhousing as it should be and I'm wondering if this other "input" is required for the speedometer to read the cars actual speed correctly?? or is there another problem somewhere.

  cheers

  Richard

    Transmissions are the same except:
the Turbo version has more clutch discs to make it heavier duty this is good     they will have different speedo drive and driven gears because of the different diff gearing     the bellhousings are different to match the different engines     as are the torque converts and probably the oil pumps     but other than that the trans will work just fine     all of the things can be switched without much difficulty

Will an automatic transmission from a 1988 505 turbo sedan fit in my 1991 505 DL (station/estate wagon)? Both cars are US/Federal market cars.

It would be great if one of our many scholars on this list would share a matrix of what 505 model transmissions--manual and automatic--fit what range of 505 variants and their years of production.

      Thanks, --P
