My initial diagnosis was using a timing light to discover no spark to #1.
That plug was plugged with oil sludge. Replaced the plug and it is firing,
but still wet with oil when I pull it. Also, this is a sudden development,
not something that has progressed gradually. Could that point to a broken
ring? In which case, wouldnšt the compression be lower?
How do I confirm the need for rings? Leak down test? Other means?
For comparison, in June, 1997 131,000 miles:
Compression, Dry 181 164 174 175
Compression, Wet 205 195 195 195
If I do need rings, Išll have some follow up questions <g>.
