Hi Ian,
The ball joint stud is rotating in the tie rod and the nut is still too stuck to thread off.
OnWithout air tools this job is pretty nasty but do-able. I'd support the car on jack stands, then take the jack and place it under the tie rod and lift it back up to the hole. Don't lift it too much (IE: Don't lift the car right off the stands, I usually lift it till it starts to lift off though...)
This should provide enough friction to the stud for you to get the nut off. Once off a quick rap on the stud will take it out.
