You'll never break it Gene--it's a forging not a casting. They do bend in
wrecks, but you won't bother anything pounding on it down its axis as you
have described. I have done it that way for years, and it always
works. The pickle-fork separators usually ruin the boot so you can't reuse
the tie rod end.
