Re: [Peugeot-L] The Cooling system of 505 Turbos

Tamara,

Occasional steam bubbles in the expansion bottle when the engine is warm may be normal, and probably due to boiling in the turbo housing. But, if you are losing coolant, getting foaming in the bottle, overpressurizing, erratic swings of the temperature gauge, and or leaks in the upper drivers side of the radiator--on this engine the problem is a cracked head 90+% of the time, not just a blown head gasket. The crack(s) will run from the exhaust valve seat across the gasket face of the head to the nearest water passage on one or both of the middle cylinders.

A sealer might have a chance of temporarily sealing the crack if introduced to the coolant while hot with the engine off, and kept under pressure while the engine cools. The only permanent solution is to replace the head or have it remanufactured by a shop experienced with the N9T head.

The passages in Peugeot heater cores are quite fine, and subject to plugging. Some sealers will plug them. One that won't is GM Cooling System Sealer Tabs, used like aspirin by GM dealers.
