60,000 mi recommended change interval probably If it jumps or busts is will bend valves All the crap has to come out of the way like fan and shroud and probably the rad

I bought an 87 ZDJL SW that the belt had bust.  the valves were all bent
You will preobablyt need a new tensioner and I forget whether the water pump runs off the timing belt if it does put in a new one of them also and while you are in there put in a new cam seal and a new crank seal and if the distributor has a shaft a new seal in there also

I have mine still apart waiting for energy to reassemble It is the first time I've done it or I wouldn't be so hazy

My USA 1991 DL has 176k miles, and I wonder if it's good insurance to change out the toothed belt that times the engine. My maintenance rrecord book makes no recommendation for changeout.

Question one: if the belt did give out, would I expect catatrophic valve damage?

Question two: does the water pump, radiator and fan shroud, etc have to be removed to complete this job?

Question three: Or...are these belts indestructable and I am freeting over nothing. --Paul
