the 205 Turbo 16 like the one for sale in Portland was a purpose
built homologation car so Peugeot could compete in the world rally
championship with a group B car.It only shares the doors, roof,
headlights and taillight with the regular 205!
in order to qualify the car 200 had to be built and sold to the
public, another 10%(20) could be used as "EVO" cars for the factory
to race.
the street cars were never DOT or EPA certified, some came here as
race cars, the other are here usually under the "Show or Display"
rule set up by NHSTA. allowing cars of historical or technological
significance to be imported and driven less than 2500 miles a year
only to-from shows. the street version had 200bhp when the evo
versions had over 350bhp and won everything in sight in world
rallies until the group B cars were banned by the FIA, too many
accidents causing the life of drivers and spectators.
one was at Carlisle this week end, car #134. there are about 1/2
dozen in the country.
