Yes/no. An engine is much less prone to pre-ignition at higher RPMs.
However, at higher RPMs, the engine can become noisy enough to fool a
knock sensor. Take a look at Saab's APC system. It lowers the
sensitivity a bit after about 3500 RPM. Then, take a look at the
newer Saabs. They use the spark plugs to detect knock, because
they're not sensing noise, but rather electrical disturbances that
pre-ignition would create, they're quite effective even at higher
RPMs.
Seems to me that the N9T has problems keeping its head intact even at
stock boost pressures. Thus, be careful with the extra boost with or
without the detonation light.
OTOH, I'm running about 2x stock boost on my Volvo, and loving it.
