My 84 XN6 wagon has interior lights that, often, seem to flicker. I
changed the rheostat and the flickering continues (it is unlikely that
two rheostats will have identical problems). The alternator checks out
at 14+ volts and the car never seems to experience any problems
starting. I think the flickering is instrument only as the headlights
seem okay. I have not checked out the alternator charge when the
lights flicker because when this happens I am usually hurtling down the
freeway at 80 mph.
The other problem that I note is that, under light pedal pressure, the
car seems to falter and hesitate as if it is starved for fuel. I have
an identical XN6 sedan that, under similar light foot pressure, does
not do this. The car idles well, the valves are properly adjusted.
The hesitation makes it a drag to drive.
Might the flickering be due to some sort of electrical problem that
also accounts for the faltering under light load? Could I have asked a
more convoluted, confusing question? Will the Cheerios kid save the
maiden?
Thanks,
Ken
