Re: [Peugeot-L] Re: ZF4HP22 Transmission Problems

The governor is in the tailshaft housing just behind the park pawl. A worn out leaky governor will make the transmission star in 2nd or 3rd gear, a sticky governor will keep the transmission in first gear for the first mile or two untill it frees up then shift normally. Either way, it will not prevent the car from moving. The park pawl is a square tooth going into a square hole in a wheel, pressure against it ( ie: parked agaisnt a curb or on an incline) may prevent it from releasing as it is spring loaded to release and engage, shifting from reverse to drive will usually release it. ----- Original Message -----

An off list reply, so I wonıt identify the sender:

>Have one of those too. I believe it is a sticking governor. We raise the rear wheels and we can get very limited wheel rotation. You need to find a workshop manual and follow the procedure for freeing up the governor, which is a simple spring loaded slide valve within the valve body which appears to detach separately (the entire valve body that is) from the transmission for cleaning / etc.

I have a slew of manuals for this vehicle, but not a transmission manual. Does anyone have transmission manual for sale, or, procedure for freeing up the governor? While Iım doing everything else, I figure no harm in playing safe and doing almost anything suggested.

Additional note: I have 60% of the 1987 Electrical manual (all models) scanned (XN6 sections only) and in .pdf format. Willing to share or provide to someone to web host it. If it wasnıt for my own repair time constraints I might even complete the whole scan <g>.
