I took my Peugeot powered Rover out for a good flogging this past weekend
and may have hurt it.
To give a little background, my engine is from an '86 505 and has about 170k
miles on it. Up until this past weekend it ran great except for some blue
smoke for about 3-4 min at startup.
Now it has no power and there is a upper engine knock. When it is cold, I
cant hear the knock at idle but as it warms up the knock is much louder (at
higher RPM it is real bad).
My first guess was that I got some water in the fuel tank (we were in some
pretty deep stuff off road) but I replaced the fuel filter and ran a hose to
a fresh can of diesel and the symptoms remained.
Second guess is that the timing is off for fuel injection pump, but since
this is my first diesel I figured I get some help first.
Any diesel-heads in the group care to offer a second opinion? How
difficult is it to replace the timing chain? Difficult to source the parts?
Thanks,
Dave Frizzell
