So if they spend a lot of money, it must be right? Puhleeze.

I stopped reading CR a while back. But it seems to me that the more
you know about a subject, the more you realize that CR doesn't know
what they're talking about. I think they talked about coffee roasing
a while back, and boy were they full of it. Similarly way back when
they reviewed cell phones, some of the comments they were making were
so uninformed as to be laughable. They compared different phones on
different networks, without taking into account the difference in
coverage.
CR and cars is an interesting mix. They put out, IMO, some valuable
information (such as the roll over testing). OTOH they put out some
amazing tripe (such as reliability statistics). By presenting such
raw data, it's really meaningless. Further, the questionaires that
they send out are abiguous enough to further discount any reports they
get back. Some of it is really just basic statistics (complete lack
of random sampling) and some of the problematic nature of their data
is a bit more subtle (comparing identical cars with different badges).
