Hi All,
The other day I was heading up a rather steep incline on the freeway
(and in heavy traffic,)in my '88 505 STI when I started to lose
speed so I gradually pressed the gas pedal down to almost the
floored position and the throttle stuck open. The pedal itself
returned to its normal postion as I quickly removed my foot but the
car kept excellerating. I tapped the gas pedal several times and
nothing happened. I got clear of traffic and started changing lanes
to the right as I was about to crest the hill and enter into a steep
decline. As I approached to top of the hill I popped it into neutral
(it's an automatic)which caused the engine to rev at an extreme
rate. I was too busy watching traffic to glance at the tach to
check the rpms.
Finally in neutral as I topped the hill I was able to get the
throttle to release by continually pumping the gas pedal. I got
home without any further problems by making sure I didn't depress
the gas pedal any further than 1/2.
Sorry for the long tale but could I get some thoughts and maybe
suggestions before I take it to the shop.
Thanks,
Marte
