RE: [Peugeot-L] Scary ride in my 505 STI

I had similar occurrences two or three times on my 87 STX before I found the cause. The stuck throttle always occurred after flooring the pedal for acceleration onto a freeway. The Peugeot mat had gotten old and bunched up by the pedal. The lower edge of the pedal caught in one of the folds and stayed down.

There are a few possibilities. Gummed up throttle body is one, frayed or misaligned cable, carpet holding the cable back, bound spring. With the engine off, pushing the throttle down and if it sticks, you'll find your problem. In a case like this, the brakes will hold the car back, putting the transmission in neutral is taking the risk of blowing something up, whilst cutting the ignition cuts out all your power assist systems ( brakes and steering). If you do need to cut the ignition, at least slow it down to a manageable speed before doing it.
