Re: [Peugeot-L] Replacement Radiators for 86 505 TD -Autobox

I am coming into this thread in the middle, not having read from the start. So I may be missing or repeating something.

My plastic-tanked rads each have lasted through at least one re-coring, possibly more, as I don't usually acquire a car before 130,000 miles. One set of plastic tanks are now retired, as the flange areas right next to the seams to the core were beginning to show stress cracks. I am told that it is likely that the other one will do so sometime, and fatigue is an expected condition for all materials, in the case of rad tanks, more so with the plastic ones than with metal. The fact of a tank being plastic does not make it incapable of being recored. The possibility or probability of a plastic tank failing with such stress cracking could be a reason that a repair facility either would advise against reuse or even refuse to recore. If I trusted the facility, I would go with their recommendation. If I thought it was wrong in the current case, I'd find another facility.

radiator was blocked, and I was told it could not be re-cored because of the plastic ends. I was losing some coolant from the expansion tank as it was heating up too much in that part of the cooling system. Because the temperature was much lower on the driver's side where the fan swich was, the car was overheating.
