I think I have been quite lucky. The car has done less than 1000 miles since
I really started to have problems. The tyre test described elseware doen't
generate a knock yet. Fingers crossed I haven't done any serious damage to
the axle tube.

I think the 2000UKP covers a bit more than just the rear axle tube.
