Hey group-
On the way home tonight, my '80 505 SD started to make a faint
squealing noise on the freeway. When I got home, there was blue smoke
coming from under the hood and a terrible burning rubber smell. I
opened the hood, and it seems like the squealing is coming from the
pulley on the vacuum pump. The pulley and belt where very hot, and
there were small rubber chunks coming from the belt. Are these pumps
known for locking up? Are they repairable, and do they need
maintenence? Would something down the line (boost bottle, vent
controls, etc) cause this? I guess this car's out of service until I
figure out what's wrong. don't want to drive with no power brakes.
OnOnThanks...
