[Peugeot-L] Re: Seats, octane, 505 STX mi16 power steering

Rulon,

When I had my STX several years ago, I experienced the same thing. It was something that came and went at it's leisure, and didn't last too long. I remember the dealer at the time saying it was not something that indicated eventual complete failure or anything, and not to be overly concerned. Basically, he said the steering wasn't going to lock up or anything. The only times it was a problem when in a parking lot at a standstill.

I have since acquired the manuals, in particular the one that involves the steering, and the variable assist in particular, which the STX has. I glossed over that section a little while back. There should be a diagnostic wire tied into the ECU on the left inner fender, and it looks the same as that mixture adjustment wire that is on the right of a turbo- a simple unconnected female connector at the end of the wire. The manual says wire M899.

Here is what it says in troubleshooting:

Symptom: No variation in assistance in relation to change in vehicle speed.

Hook up test light b/t M899 and ground.

Turn key on.

3 blinks- variable ratio power steering modulating system is operating. arrow- check hydraulic pressures.

no blink, 1 blink, 2 blinks - variable ratio power steering system defective. then arrows to: Check power to ECU, install new ECU and repeat; Check the electrical circuit b/t speed sensor and ECU, repeat test with new sensor; Check the electrical circuit b/t servo-regulator and ECU, repeat using new servo-regulator.

The accompaning diagram has pins 12 and 13 on the ECU pictured, both going to positive on battery, 12 is the M899 diagnostic wire.

The servo-regulator is below the battery, the ECU is behind glove box, speed sensor on cable. The ECU is pictured as being behind upper glove box, to the right.

There is another page explaining how the system works (in general terms). Let me know if you need more info.

As for the seats, I once put one's out of my '83 into an '87.

some nice velour seats from a td that I'm thinking of getting to replace the hardened and torn leather ones in my 87 stx-if they fit.

    with turbo's and stx's?
