I just used a '70 FORD starter relay. I mounted it to the strut tower above the battery. Run the positive cable to one side (Large terminal) and another cable from the opposite side (Large terminal) to the starter. Re-routed the accessory wires from the solenoid to the FORD relay. Re-routed the small starter wire, coming from the switch, to the FORD relay. Added a short wire to the solenoid from the pin (or post) that the ignition wire was connected to, to the large terminal on the starter (where the large cable from the FORD relay connects).

This way the FORD relay is now the solenoid for the system and requires less voltage to engage. It sends a 12v charge to both the starter and the starter solenoid, which engages the starter. I have thus (until the ignition switch gives completely out) cured the problem of not having 12v being sent to the starter solenoid. I hope this helps. I know that it looks out of place under the hood (bonnet) of a French car, but it works when the current system starts to go sour.
