[Peugeot-L] 505 turbo #2 rod bearing failure

Has anyone come across the #2 rod bearing failing in a 505 turbo motor? All the other bearings look great, but the number 2 bearing is completely squashed. I've seen this 4 times now, and i've heard of other people having the same problem but have never heard of any ideas as to what may have caused it, or a solution..

I'm thinking it _has_ to be lubrication related, but what!?! the oil pump is chain driven. Crappy oil filter slowing down oil flow(?), or is that a pipe theory. clogged oil pickup screen?
