[Peugeot-L] 405 GLDT XUD7TE 1992 clicking noise

Hi all,

Have an issue that is doing my head in with my 405 UK right hand drive.

When I am driving along and have the front passenger window open I can hear a clicking coming from the front nearside wheel.

I am sure most will say stone in tyre but not so I have spent hours picking every last one out.

It varies with speed, is not changed by applying the brakes (except frequency of occurance as car slows down).

It sounds much like those days when we were young and placed something on the forks of a bicycle to flap against the spokes but only cacthing one spoke.

I have had the wheel off repeatedly bu have not managed to identify the source. The calliper and disk is only about 18 months old but I have sort of ruled them out as I would expect the noise to change when the brakes are applied.

The gaiters on the CV and shaft are intact.

Not sure if perhaps a CV or driveshaft to gearbox problem. Just had driveshaft and CV replaced on opposite side of car due to failure while away from home.

Would you get this if the gearbox was low on oil?

Sorry for the long post just wanted to give as many clues as I could.

Dave
