I had something like this with the rear defrost switch on my 84 505 (you
use the defogger a lot in Vancouver's rainy weather). Only what had
happened was the metal arm with the pin on the end had bent and the pin
would slip out of the track. I tried to bend it back (nothing
ventured...) of course it snapped off. So I took the decorative,
functional but not useful fog light switch apart, swapped the
translucent covers, and put everything back together. It doesn't matter
that the fog light switch doesn't work as there are no fog lights on the
car...

Subject: [Peugeot-L] 505 ECO and Recirc Push Button Repair
Do you have the recalcitrant button syndrome....you know...it wont stay
down or up when you want it to? It can't be repaired ( well... maybe
with epoxy and some microscopic sculpturing)but the panel can easily be
taken apart and the stubborn button replaced, they are interchangeable.
It all comes beautifully apart. The problem is the plastic track molded
on the sideface of the button where a metal disc with a tiny pin must
follow the track. The metal pin is harder than the plastic .....and over
time with abuse the pin wears down the track. I saw this under the
microscope! If yours is working, don't abuse the button, rather work it
slowly, hitting the button fast will eat up the plastic. If anyone is
interested I will post some pics.
