[Peugeot-L] 1980 505 SD tired engine

Hey guys-

My commuter car, a '80 505 SD (XD2) is getting very tired. It's been using alot of oil (about one quart per 500 miles) and putting out a TON of blowby for the last 10,000 miles or so. Now it's developed a bit of a rod knock at idle. I'm still driving it, because the knock goes away as soon as the engine speed goes up and the oil pressure rises, and I refuse to commute in my Mi16. I know I've got to do some work on it though, and I was wondering if I could get some advice on my options.

  1. I can rebuild the engine. What's the feasability of this? Are parts available and affordable?
  2. I can buy a short block and rebuild my cylinder head. Any places that sell rebuilt motors.
  3. I can find a XD2S motor, turbo, and IP. Anyone have one for sale?
  4. Just out of curiosity, anyone ever seen a small block Chevy motor in a 505? I think a 327 and a TH400 auto transmission would be awesome in this car.

Looking forward to reading your replies. (And looking forward to not throwing a rod on the way home today).

-Matt
