I'm in the middle of a 505 turbo alt war myself. My re build lasted just over 2 years before boiling the acid out of the battery. To hell w/ rebuilds, I'm buying new from now on, while they're still around!

To be fair, the original lasted over 10 years, so I can't complain. And I did put the re/maned unit through a 5000 k road trip, with all acc on, driving through torrential rain at night mid summer.

BTW I found a new one in cali for $200. Score! (assuming they send me the right one)
