[Peugeot-L] 405 S vrs 405 Mi16

Recently I purchased my first Mi16 to replace my very tired 405 S. (Both are 1991 models) The S is an automatic. At 70-75 MPH the engine on the Mi16 is just screaming. 4,000 RPM or so. It makes me wish it had a 6th gear or an overdrive or something. The 405 S with automatic is only doing around 3500 RPM and feels like/sounds like it is not laboring at all. In fact, it is almost saying 'why go 75? We could go 80 or 85!" The Mi16 does not exibit any performance problems, runs smoothly and going eagarly through the gears. It just seems like the revs are way up there, along with the noise. Is this normal? The guy I bought it from did tell me it has an 89 trans in it, and it does have 15 inch rims. The Mi16 does need some front end work, ie, some of the bushings are shot. Any thoughts?
