This is a good overview, Mike, and corroborates my understanding that the process is quite hard for the do-it-yourself aficionado.

So, is the reverse also true? Do cars manufactured to U.S. standards have just as many holes to fill to be imported into Europe? Setting aside the way - oversized and use-too-much-fuel issues or whether people there would want them, of course. The economic question would be, is there be value in working with the E.U. in agreement on common standards? Is this more relevant as attention to size and economy becomes more serious here in the U.S.?
